Q: What do kids do at a Mad Science birthday party?
A: During the first 45 - 50 minutes the Mad Scientist will engage children with amazing science demonstrations that are conducted with the help of your birthday child and guests. Some examples of experiments that may be included are: fitting a hard boiled egg into an impossibly small space, seeing flash paper disappear, creating fake snow, and generating giant vortex rings in the air. During the final 10-15 minutes of the party the kids will make slime, Mad Science putty, or a superball to take home. Adding on any additional experiments like the hovercraft or cotton candy will add about 15 minutes to the length of your party (per add-on).
Q: How far in advance do I need to book my party?
A: Our party schedule fills up quickly for weekends. We suggest you book well in advance to get the date and time you want. Generally, at least 3 weeks in advance is recommended.
Q: What do I need to do to make a reservation?
A: You can call us at (727) 895-5595 or toll-free at (866) 895-5595 and we’ll be happy to schedule your party over the phone. You may also contact us via e-mail at We do our best to get back to you in one business day. We require a $75 deposit to book your party and accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Your deposit is fully refundable up to 5 business days before your party.
Q: What time can I have my party?
A: On Saturdays and Sundays we have set party times of A. Early time (11:00AM or before), B. Mid time (2:00PM + or - 30 minutes), and C. Late time (4:30PM or after). Its never too early or too late for our FUN science! We have presented parties as early as 9am and sleepover parties as late as 9pm. If you would like a different start time for you party, just ask. We will attempt to accommodate all requests. Parties can also be scheduled Monday-Friday at any time. All dates and times are subject to availability.
Q: How far do you travel for parties?
A: Our office is in St. Petersburg but we have traveled from Orlando to Naples to Crystal River for parties upon request. If your party is over a certain distance (18 miles one way) from our office we add a mileage fee for the extra time and gas needed to get to your location. We will inform you of any travel charges when you book your party.
Q: Do I need to know the exact number of kids attending my party to book it?
A: No. All we need is an estimate of the number of children you expect to attend. We ask that you plan for the largest number of children expected. On the day of the party, you will be charged only for the number of kids that actually attend.
Q: Do you have any themed parties?
A: All our themes revolve around science. If you have another party theme, we can try our best to incorporate your theme into the experiments and language that is used.
Q: When will the Mad Scientist arrive?
A: The Mad Scientist will arrive 15-20 minutes early to set up. He/she will be ready to start the show at the time you booked. It is best to start your party at least 30 minutes before your Mad Science show is scheduled to begin, to ensure the Mad Scientist is able to start on time and thus you get your full party length time.
Q: What kind of space is needed?
A: The Mad Scientist will need a table (4-6 ft long, but we can be flexible) near an electrical outlet. We ask that you have enough space for the Mad Scientist and for your guests to be comfortable. The kids can be seated on the floor or on chairs, several feet from the table. For our Hovercraft add-on we will need a decently flat ten foot (or bigger) surface that is decently smooth. We most always can find somewhere at your location to get the flying started.
Q: How much space is needed for the rocket launch?
A: The Mad Scientist will need a large sized back yard or open space to launch the rocket. If you are not sure whether you have sufficient space, you can always add the rocket launch and then the Mad Scientist will assess whether or not it is safe to launch the rocket on the day of the party. You will not be charged for the upgrade if the rocket cannot be launched safely. Parties at our local parks are awesome for this add-on.
Q: Will I have to provide the Mad Scientist with anything?
A: We will need access to water for set-up and clean-up. Access to electricity is also needed for some party experiments but we do parties all the time (like in parks) where we don't need electricity. Please let us know if your party location does not have these.
Q: Once I have scheduled my party, can I make changes to it later?
A: Yes. Any changes to your party must be scheduled at least one business day before your party.
Q: Is it OK to have other activities going on while the Mad Scientist is performing?
A: The Mad Scientist will begin at the scheduled start time and continue until our portion of the entertainment is finished. It depends upon the mad Scientist at your location (just ask) but we are usually run straight thru our presentation not breaking for any other activities (ex. food or cake). Please plan accordingly.
Q: What if it rains the day of my party?
A: If it rains on the day of your party, the Mad Scientist will call to see if there is an alternate indoor location to conduct the party. If not we are flexible and will help you find an alternate date/time.
Q: Can I have the phone number of my Mad Scientist?
A: We do not provide the Mad Scientist’s personal contact information. If you would like the Mad Scientist to call you on the day of your party, we can have them do so. We will always call you 1-3 days before the party to confirm the details with you and double check our information for your party.
Q: For what ages are your parties appropriate?
A: Our parties are appropriate for children between 6 to 12 years of age. Younger siblings generally watch as well. We have preschool parties that we do for those turning 4 and 5 years old. We determine the number of attendees based on the number of children between the ages of 5 and 12.
Q: When do I pay?
A: We require a $75 deposit to book your party. Our mad scientist, upon arrival, will present you with program receipt which will have the remaining balance on it. At the end of your party, you will pay the Mad Scientist that balance. You can pay with cash, check, or provide authorization to charge the credit card we have on file. Your $75 deposit is refundable up to 5 business days before the party.
Q: What is your policy on tipping?
A. If you think your Mad Scientist did a great job, a tip is very much appreciated.

We would be happy to walk you through our party options to see if it is right for you. If you have any questions, please call us at (727) 895-5595 or toll-free (866) 895-5595 or email at us
